No, by the moon! 32 By the night when it departs. 33 The morning when it is unveiled, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning to mankind, 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 except the people of the right hand 39 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, 40 From the guilty. 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
