Nay, by the moon, 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 A warning for people -- 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness. 56
