Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 except those of the right hand 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 About the criminals, 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 we fed not the needy, 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
