By the moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 The morning when it is unveiled, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 A warning to mankind, 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul will be a pledge for that which it hath earned, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
