Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I swear by the Day of Resurrection. 1 And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection]. 2 Does man think that We shall not gather his bones? 3 Indeed, We have the power to restore his very finger tips! 4 Aye! man desireth that he may sin before him. 5 asking [derisively,] "When is that Resurrection Day to be?" 6 Yet when the eyes are dazzled, 7 and the moon is eclipsed, 8 and the sun and moon are brought together, 9 On that day man will cry out, “Where shall I flee?” 10 No, there shall be no (place of) refuge. 11 For on that Day the refuge shall be to your Lord. 12 To man will be declared on that Day that which he hath sent on and left behind. 13 In fact man is a witness against himself, 14 in spite of all the excuses he may offer. 15 Do not move your tongue with it to make haste with it, 16 Indeed assembling the Qur’an and reading it are upon Us. 17 When We have recited it, follow its words attentively; 18 Again on Us (devolves) the explaining of it. 19 Nay, but ye do love the fleeting Now 20 and give no thought to the life to come [and to Judgment Day]! 21 [Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant, 22 and look forward to receiving mercy from their Lord. 23 And some faces, that Day, will be Basirah (dark, gloomy, frowning, and sad), 24 Imagining that there will befall them a waiste-breaking calomity. 25 Nay, when (the soul) reaches to the collar bone (i.e. up to the throat in its exit), 26 And it is said: Who will be a magician? 27 and he realises that the hour of parting is come, 28 And one leg will be joined with another: 29 at that time towards thy Sustainer does he feel impelled to turn! 30
