The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 And they feed with food, for love of Him, the needy, and the orphan and the captive. 8 saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold. 13 And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
