The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, 12 Where they will recline on couches feeling neither heat of the sun nor intense cold. 13 the shading branches of trees will come down low over them, and their clusters of fruit, will hang down where they are the easiest to reach. 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 goblets of silver that they have precisely measured. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
