The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. 3 Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze. 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 and passed around them shall be silver vessels, and crystal goblets, 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof according to their wishes. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
