The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 and who give food - however great be their own want of it - unto the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold. 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 Rounds of silver cups and silver beakers, looking like glass, will be presented upon them. 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls. 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
