The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 God will certainly rescue them from the terror of that day and will meet them with joy and pleasure. 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold. 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 And they shall be given to drink from a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And boys of everlasting youth will go about attending them. Looking at them you would think that they were pearls dispersed. 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 they will wear green garments of fine silk and rich brocade. They will be adorned with silver bracelets. And their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
