The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. 6 they who keep their vows and fear a Day whose evil is spread; 7 and who give food - however great be their own want of it - unto the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 And when you see there, you shall see blessings and a great kingdom. 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
