The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. 7 And feed the needy for the love of Him, and the orphans and the captives, 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 We are afraid of our Lord and the bitterly distressful day". 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 'See, this is your recompense, your striving is thanked' 22
