The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Indeed there has been a time for man, when even his name did not exist anywhere. 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him – We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 therein they shall recline upon couches, therein they shall see neither sun nor bitter cold; 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when you see there, you shall see blessings and a great kingdom. 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 Surely this is a reward for you, and your striving shall be recompensed. 22
