The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Hath there come upon man (ever) any period of time in which he was a thing unremembered? 1 Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing. 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. 6 They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes). 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 'See, this is your recompense, your striving is thanked' 22
