The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Indeed there has been a time for man, when even his name did not exist anywhere. 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire. 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah – we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they will find there neither (heat of) a sun nor bitter cold. 13 And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 from a flowing spring called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
