The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 and who give food - however great be their own want of it - unto the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold. 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and goblets of crystal,- 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes). 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. 18 ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted. 22
