The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him – We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. 3 Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. 4 The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 (saying): “We feed you only for Allah's sake; we do not seek of you any recompense or thanks, 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 therein they shall recline upon couches, therein they shall see neither sun nor bitter cold; 13 And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 they will wear green garments of fine silk and rich brocade. They will be adorned with silver bracelets. And their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
