The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 a source [of bliss] whereof God's servants shall drink, seeing it flow in a flow abundant. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 So Allah shall guard them against the woe of that Day, and will procure them freshness and joy, 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 therein they shall recline upon couches, therein they shall see neither sun nor bitter cold; 13 The shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 From a spring by the name of Ever-flowing-Salsabil. 18 ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. 19 If you were to see it, you would find it to be a great kingdom with great bounty. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." 22
