The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing. 2 Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire. 4 Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of Kafur, 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive, 8 Saying: we feed you only for the sake of Allah; we desire not from you any recompense or thanks. 9 Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 And they will be waited upon with vessels of silver and goblets that will [seem to] be crystal 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes). 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 from a flowing spring called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. 19 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
