The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 And gave them Paradise and silk clothes, as a reward for their patience. 12 Reclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun's (excessive heat) nor (the moon's) excessive cold. 13 And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ There boys of everlasting youth shall go about attending them: when you see them, you would think that they are scattered pearls. 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
