The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
