The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hath there come upon man (ever) any period of time in which he was a thing unremembered? 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly. 6 They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 we fear from our Lord a Day that shall be long and distressful.” 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 Where they will recline on couches feeling neither heat of the sun nor intense cold. 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 They will drink cups containing (soft flowing) sparkling water 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
