The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing. 2 We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. 4 Indeed the virtuous will drink from a cup, containing a mixture of Kafoor. 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 those who, for the love of Him, feed the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 for we fear from our Lord a frowning day, inauspicious. 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 (The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 'See, this is your recompense, your striving is thanked' 22
