The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight. 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. 6 They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; 7 And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof according to their wishes. 16 And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. 17 From a spring by the name of Ever-flowing-Salsabil. 18 ۞ There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 In it they adorn clothes of fine green silk and gold embroidery; and they are given silver bracelets to wear; and their Lord gave them pure wine to drink. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
