The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 (saying): “We feed you only for Allah's sake; we do not seek of you any recompense or thanks, 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
