The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; 7 who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 There they will recline on elevated couches and will be subjected neither to the burning heat of the sun nor to bitter cold. 13 And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. 14 Rounds of silver cups and silver beakers, looking like glass, will be presented upon them. 15 goblets of silver that they have precisely measured. 16 And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger 17 From a spring by the name of Ever-flowing-Salsabil. 18 ۞ And boys of everlasting youth will go about attending them. Looking at them you would think that they were pearls dispersed. 19 and when thou seest [anything that is] there thou wilt see [only] bliss and a realm transcendent 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
