The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. 3 We have prepared for unbelievers chains and collars and a blazing fire. 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 (saying): “We feed you only for Allah's sake; we do not seek of you any recompense or thanks, 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 God will certainly rescue them from the terror of that day and will meet them with joy and pleasure. 11 And gave them Paradise and silk clothes, as a reward for their patience. 12 Where they will recline on couches feeling neither heat of the sun nor intense cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 Therein they shall be served a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 [derived from] a source [to be found] therein, whose name is "Seek Thy Way". 18 ۞ There boys of everlasting youth shall go about attending them: when you see them, you would think that they are scattered pearls. 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
