Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the emissary winds, sent one after another (for men's benefit), 1 By the raging hurricanes, 2 Consider these [messages] that spread [the truth] far and wide, 3 Then by those that clearly differentiate the right and wrong. 4 and then giving forth a reminder, 5 To end all argument or to warn. 6 Verily that which ye are promised is about to befall. 7 When the stars are obliterated, 8 Heavens will rent asunder. 9 and when the mountains crumble into dust 10 And when the apostles are collected at the appointed time, 11 If one asks, "To which day have such calamitous events been postponed?" 12 For the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false]! 13 And what do you know, what the Day of Decision is! 14 Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth! 15 Did We not destroy the former generations? 16 Then did We follow them up with later ones. 17 That is what We shall do to those who are guilty of crime. 18 Woe on that day to the rejecters. 19 Did We not create you from a weak water, 20 that We laid within a sure lodging 21 for a term pre-ordained? 22 We determined, how excellent a Determiner are We! 23 On that day, woe would be upon those who have rejected the revelations of God! 24 Have We not made the earth a housing 25 Of the living and the dead? 26 Set We not therein soaring mountains? Sated you with sweetest water? 27 Alas the woe that day for those who deny! 28 GO ON towards that [resurrection] which you were wont to call a lie! 29 Depart unto the shadow three branched: 30 unshading against the blazing flame 31 which - behold! - will throw up sparks like [burning] logs, 32 So like golden camels." 33 Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth! 34 On that Day they will be speechless, 35 nor shall they be permitted to offer excuses. 36 Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth! 37 This is the Day of Decision; We have gathered you and all the earlier men. 38 So if you have any plot to devise against Me, then devise it. 39 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 40
