The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 About the great event, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
