The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
