The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 , A fitting reward. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
