The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
