The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
