The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
