The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
