The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
