The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they differ? 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
