The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the great news - 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
