The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they differ? 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
