The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 It will be a place of return 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30

كيف تعمل منظومة تمارين الحفظ؟ عند أدنى مستوى 0، تكون كل الكلمات ظاهرة. بينما يُخفي أعلى مستوى 9 كل الكلمات. فكيف تعمل المستويات المتوسطة، مثل 3، على سبيل المثال؟ قد تعتقد بأن المنظومة تخفي 3 من كل تسع كلمات بدقة. ليس تماما! في المستوى 3، لكل كلمة فرصة اختفاء بنسبة 3 من 9، و6 من 9 لتكون ظاهرة. بمعنى آخر، من الممكن، ولكن باحتمال شبة معدوم، أن تكون جميع كلمات المستوى 3 مخفية، أو أن تكون جميعها ظاهرة! وكذلك أيضًا، ففي المستويات المتوسطة، وبما يتناسب مع مستوى الصعوبة، يمكن أن تكون المخابئ غير كاملة أو شفافة جزئيًا بحيث تظهر الكلمات جزئيًا تحتها.
How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
