The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
