The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 , A fitting reward. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
