The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
