The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 A dwelling place for the Taghun (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allah like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals, etc.), 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
