The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the great event, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
