The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the Great News 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
