The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
