The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 About which they differ? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
