The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they differ? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 A dwelling place for the Taghun (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allah like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals, etc.), 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a fitting requital, 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
