The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 Requital corresponding. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
